Below is some basic information as to the roles and responsibilities of game officials.

Game officials are members of our community who are willing to officiate EYSA sport programs.  This includes soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball.  Game officials are paid for their time and payment depends on the position you are working.

As an alternative to being paid for officiating, high school students are eligible to receive community service credits while volunteering for EYSA.  Email molly.allen@eysaeatonville.com for more information.

Game officials have a huge responsibility.  They are the enforcers of the game’s rules and regulations and are held to high standards in regard to interactions involving coaches and/or parents.  They are responsible for maintaining the pace of play and help ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.

They are expected to be confident in their demeanor and are expected to know the rules of the game.  Officials are required to behave in a professional manner, even if faced with upset coaches and/or parents.  Game officials have full authority of the game facility/field 30-minutes before the game until the game is over.

Officials report directly to the Director of Game Officials (DoGO).  The DoGO is responsible for scheduling and coordinating the official’s schedule.  Officials must notify the DoGO in the event they are unable to make their scheduled game.  Failure to report for a scheduled game may result in being removed from the schedule.

The DoGO will contact each official prior to their game and verify that they will be on the field as scheduled.  In the event of a scheduling conflict (i.e. “callout”), the DoGO is responsible for making sure there is adequate coverage.

EYSA will provide game officials with the necessary equipment.
